WEEK OF 3/6/17 Whoops! Kind of forgot I had a web page for the 4 of you that actually read it! Reading and Language Arts We are continuing with MAKING INFERENCES. This is something the kiddos struggle with, so we are practicing a lot! If you want to reinforce this skill at home, give them riddles! It makes them use details to support their answer. Our reading content will consist of TOMATO PLANTS and LIFE CYCLES OF LADY BUGS. AUTHOR'S PURPOSE for this week is to INFORM. We will make predictions, inferences, and draw conclusions...we will even be reading poetry on these subjects. Science I LOVE SCIENCE! Anywho, we will be learning about the stages of a tomato plant and life cycle of a lady bug! Your child may, or may not, come home with a lady bug if I can not persuade him/her to let it be free. My apologies. Misc ACADEMIC VOCABULARY for this unit is: topic, author's purpose, task, problem solve, perform a procedure, interpret facts, persuasive, draw conclusions, text evidence (the last one is so redundant in my class that your child will probably roll their eyes when they hear it). -TUTORING MW is Reading with Mrs. MaGill and TuTh Math with Mrs. Rogers -FEEL FREE TO SCHEDULE A CONFERENCE AT ANYTIME WITH ME! 10:35-11:20 M-F during the work day - all other times are considered :) -JACKETS and COATS, OH MY! I have a few jackets in my classroom - I think I may start a lost and found tab ;) -When I pass out Monday Folders I meet with each student to talk about their progress and anything else they want to discuss - we have too much to squeeze in for science and social studies, so I have to break it up into two days. Please sign and return any paper 70% or less. Sign both papers that are stapled in the folder, and return the folder on Wednesday. -If you need resources to help your child, or to supplement their work, check out the site www.insyncedu.com. -Be sure to check out the links on my website – there are supplemental sites to help with the skills we are learning. -I appreciate you looking through the agenda and homework folder daily – you can write me notes (or text/call/email) with any questions or concerns…I check it daily. -Encourage your child to read for at least 30 minutes per day outside of school. Help your child meet his/her AR goal!
